Empathy

Yes, it's snowing again.  Hooray for the local ski areas, hooray for the kiddos who get another day off, hooray for everyone who loves the white stuff.  For everyone else, tough darts.  Shoveling beckons tomorrow, and meetings have had to be rescheduled.  Frankly, this storm is a major inconvenience.  To many people, it will be much worse.

We often look at things from a very narrow perspective, and are oblivious to what others might be experiencing.  Empathy, however, is central to being human.  We need to try to understand what others are experiencing.  Only then might we understand their motives, their wants, their demands, even their needs.  We don't have to agree with them or acceded to whatever they want, but we will be better informed and more humane.

During this Lent, we should repent for our self-centeredness and we should pray for some perspective, some empathy.
